Clinical Peels + Facials

The Deep Sea Peel

The Deep Sea Peel is a unique, acid-free peel which attains dramatic rejuvenating results through the physical penetration of marine-based ingredients deep within the epidermis. This initiates a complex array of biological responses resulting in cellular renewal and regeneration. Smoothing of fine lines and wrinkles and overall improvement in skin texture.

Deep Sea Peel stimulates cellular turnover, strengthens skin and increases circulation resulting in brighter, healthier and more hydrated skin. Removes and reduces epidermal hyper-pigmentation, stimulates collagen and elastin synthesis for firmer skin and anti-ageing benefits.

Safe to use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Dermal Glow Whakatane Clinical Peel Results

    How do they work?

Clinical Peels work by breaking down proteins in the skin, removing abnormal and damaged cells and allowing the skins natural functions to replace them with healthier more structured cells. Depending on the depth of the peel used, stimulation of inflammation within the skin can stimulate baby collagen formation, creating a thicker healthier skin.

    Is there down time?

This completely depends on the strength of peel used. Some peels you will walk out with completely glowing fresh skin ready for a special event, some of our more advanced peels you can experience 3-5 days of light to moderate shedding or peeling of the skin.

The down time is very minimal and most people feel comfortable enough to go back to work the next day. You may also wear a mineral makeup if needed.
It’s important to follow any aftercare advice given and to not pick at any skin that is shedding or peeling as this can lead to risks of pigmentation or even scarring and infection.
Your skin will be more susceptible to UV rays; therefore, it is important to protect your skin with a SPF 30+.

How long do the results last?

Skin improvements take time and with clinical peels the results are subtle however, you will achieve continuous improvements by completing a course of treatments. Most clients find that their skins texture improves and they have achieved a healthier glowing skin after just one treatment and find that this lasts for 2-4 weeks.
To ensure long lasting results it is recommended to have ongoing maintenance along with using medical grade skincare routine.

    What does the treatment involve?

Following a thorough consultation to determine your skin concerns and expectations, a treatment plan and skin preparations will be recommended. (With some peels it is essential to prep skin with homecare two weeks prior to treatment)

Once a chemical peel has been chosen and consent forms are signed, your face will be cleansed and a preparation solution will be applied to remove any oils and impurities while ensuring the skin is thoroughly clean. If including LED Light to your treatment to promote healing and mitochondria stimulation this is performed now.

Depending on the type of peel this will be left on the skin for a set amount of time. Then the peel will either be removed and neutralized or in some cases massaged into the skin.
Chemical peels generally are not painful. However, some people find a tingly, stingy or hot sensation on application or when removing the peel. We can use a fan to ease any discomfort.

Following the treatment, you may feel slight tingling and your skin can appear slightly red or flushed.

    Cosmelan® Depigmenting Peel

Cosmelan Depigmenting peel is the world’s safest most effective treatment for removing pigmentation. This painless treatment can be used for all types of pigmentation, from sun spots, freckles and imperfections to the most stubborn hormonal melasmas and hyperpigmentation, which is difficult and dangerous to treat with other modalities.

Once the course of this treatment is completed, your skin will be dramatically clearer of skin discolorations whilst also achieving optimal skin health giving a beautiful glow along with that air brushed appearance. Most people find they do not need to wear makeup after the treatment course.

    Skin concerns ideal for Cosmelan:

    • Melasma (hormonal pigmentation
    • Sun damaged/photo damaged skins
    • Freckles
    • Hyperpigmentation caused from trauma to skin
    • Pigmented acne or injury scars
    • Brightening of complexion
    • Uneven skin tones and texture

      What does the treatment involve?

It is essential that a thorough consultation is performed prior to the treatment and that you are fully aware of the homecare protocol.
Once we have determined whether you are the right candidate, the in clinic treatment can be applied.
Your face will be cleansed and a degreasing solution will be applied to ensure the skin is clean and clear of any oils, dirt and impurities.
Cosmelan mask is then applied which is nude/brown in colour and has a thick consistency. This is left on the skin for 8-12 hours depending on the severity of your pigmentation and skin type. It is recommended that you come to the clinic the morning of treatment as it is best to NOT sleep with this on. During this time you may experience a slight tingle and the mask can crack in some places, if this occurs you can just dab or spray a little water over the area.
Once the time is up you simply wash the mask off either in the shower or a basin. Here you may feel (some may not) a slight tingle, tightness and potential redness.
The next day and up to two weeks following, is when you will develop swelling, tightness and peeling with a stinging sensitive sensation when applying the homecare products. It is imperative that you follow the strict homecare protocol to achieve the desired results.

      How long do results last?

Cosmelan has a 95% success rate and most clients experience a dramatic improvement after completing just one treatment. Results can be dependent on a range of factors such as homecare application, SPF use, time spent outdoors and hormonal changes (pregnancy, birth control, other hormonal conditions)

Every skin responds differently when treating pigmentation. Some people feel they are happy with just a one off treatment and some with more stubborn pigment find repeating the treatment every one to two years to achieve optimal results.

What to expect after the treatment?

After the treatment and you have removed treatment mask some people can experience swelling, redness and tightness. This generally happens from day 1-3. From this point your skin may start to feel very tight and dry and applying the aftercare routine can feel stingy on application. (A hand held fan can come in useful) Generally on day three your skin will begin to peel and flake off, this is normally more prominent around the mouth and chin. It is extremely important NOT to force or pull at peeling skin, DO NOT pick the skin what so ever. This can lead to new hyperpigmentation, scaring or even infection.
You will start to see results of the treatment at approximately 10-14 days with skin being visibly clearer and brighter, however redness can still be present. Your skin will appear healthier and start to develop a beautiful airbrushed appearance. From this point, as long as there is no open skin still present you may apply makeup, however most find they do not need to. Ongoing results will continue over the next month.
